P4S is a research based 14-lesson parenting curriculum designed for Filipino families. This is Dr. Evelyn R. Pajaron’s dissertation product for her PhD in Holistic Child Development. Interactive transformative learning, which involves role plays, dramatization, games, discussion, is used that makes the lessons practical, fun, and transferable.
This curriculum is a result of quite a substantial research on Philippine parenting empirical studies, top evidenced-based parenting programs, and biblical perspectives and principles on issues
P4S curriculum seeks to improve parent child relationship, decrease abusive discipline practices, increase positive parenting practices, improve family relationships, increase parental teamwork/spousal network and increase trust relationship with God.
Research Findings
Before attending P4S
68.8% of the parents are verbally and physically abusive. 34.4% admitted having spousal fights and infidelity, children felt unloved, afraid, become hardheaded and disobedient.
Noted Changes after attending P4S
Parenting Practices and Family Impact:
90.6% reported speaking calmly to their children
65.6% refrained from spanking or using curse words
56.3% practiced self-control and patience
43.8% spent time playing with their children
40.6% intentionally bonded with their children
34.4% assigned chores and began teaching responsibility
68.8% gave more praise and rewards (with 25% significantly increasing this behavior)
Positive Family Changes Observed:
81.2% of family members felt happier
71.3% showed more affection toward one another
53.1% reported improved communication and more storytelling or “kwentuhan”
43.8% felt closer as a family
81.25% also said their children were more obedient than before
Spiritual and Emotional Growth:
71.9% said their trust in God deepened, specifically noting that Christ should be at the center of their lives
56.25% began reading the Bible regularly
65.6% prayed individually and as a family—at night and before meals
37.5% practiced having a family altar
84.4% realized the importance of self-care
84.4% found the parenting class therapeutic
46.9% said that reading the Bible or the Tagalog version of Our Daily Bread helped them feel calmer and saw God as a support.
PARENTING MODULE
Pronounced as PForce, the curriculum captures the vision of Psalm 144:12-14 that describes well-nurtured children, abundant provision and strong protection because “blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!”
